It’s a Girl Thing was formed in 2002 to bring the truth to teenage girls about abstinence. A group of 12 women who were very concerned about the high teenage pregnancy rate in Nueces County banded together to hold a two-day conference for teens and their moms. While our conference began in local schools on the Westside, we did host our conference for 2 years on the campus of Del Mar College. The following year’s conference we returned to a more intimate, centralized location, West Oso Middle School where we continued to offer nationally known speakers and musicians selected for re-enforcing our mission. “To encourage teenage girls to be virtuous young women in a world that doesn’t always care about moral and ethical standards.” We conduct over 30 breakout sessions on a variety of topics lead by local professionals, counselors, teachers, and leaders. All of this is done to make a difference in young girls’ lives, protecting and supporting them in making healthy life choices. In February 2015 we hosted a one day conference at Annapolis Christian Academy packed full of information and energy. On February 24 & 25, 2017 we will have our conference at Miller High School.
